Although it may not be the wedding of the century, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s Royal Wedding was the event of the season. A modern marriage with a blend of British tradition, the ceremony had all the pomp and pageantry of royalty and aristocracy.
At precisely midday, the once-divorced bride, wearing a gorgeous white boat-neck dress by British designer Clare Waight, arrived at the wedding chapel accompanied by 10 Page Boys and young bridesmaids. Among them was Prince George and Princess Charlotte – the kids of Prince William and Kate Middleton.
Together with more than 2, 000 invited guests and over 120,000 people who descended on Windsor Castle grounds to witness the occasion, the world watched another fairy-tale wedding of an African-American actress to the late Princess Diana’s youngest of her two sons, Prince Harry, at St George’s Chapel in Windsor Castle.
With only Markle’s mother Doria Ragland present at the Royal Wedding as as the relative of the bride, the House of Windsor stepped in to assume the role of father figure to walk the bride and the soon-to-be royal down the aisle.
Ms. Markle’s bridal party walked her to the midpoint of the Chapel where Prince Charles took over and walked her down the aisle to the altar. An emotional Prince Harry who had been waiting then said to his bride, “You look amazing” as he took her hand and then thanked his father, “Thank you, pa.”
The ceremony was held at the historically iconic St George’s Chapel at Windsor Castle and was presided over by the Bishop of Canterbury, Justin Welby.
The couple exchanged their vows before a crowd of 600 invited guests including Queen Elizabeth II and her husband Prince Phillip who hadn’t been seen in public since his hip replacement surgery about 6 weeks ago.
After rings were exchanged and the couple were proclaimed husband and wife, the tears were replaced with joy as the newly-weds shared a passionate kiss in front of hundreds of their friends and all the Royals who came in full support of Diana’s youngest, once troubled son.
Afterwards, they left the ceremony in a vintage car to emerge later in an Ascot Landau Carriage for that iconic ride along the crowded Windsor streets where royal watchers and supporters had been waiting eagerly for the wedding procession.
The Royal Wedding which took place on a beautiful sunny day was watched by millions across the globe. Over 120 thousand well-wishers also lined the iconic Long Walk to watch the procession as the Ascot Landau Carriage carrying the newly-weds – Their Royal Highnesses, The Duke and Duchess of Sussex, pass by.
