Democrat Virginia Governor Ralph Northam on Friday issued an apology after acknowledging his presence in a controversial and racially offensive  image in his 1984 medical school yearbook depicting two men in racist regalia.  One was in a Black face and the other in a Ku Klux Klan (KKK) robe and hood.

The apology video posted on Twitter follows growing criticism and calls from both parties for Northam, 59, to resign after the surface of the racially-offensive controversial photo.

“I am deeply sorry for the decision I made to appear as I did in this photo and for the hurt that decision caused then and now,” he said.

“This behavior is not in keeping with who I am today and the values I have fought for throughout my career in the military, in medicine, and in public service. But I want to be clear, I understand how this decision shakes Virginians’ faith in that commitment.”

Although he apologized for the “racist and offensive” image, the Governor did not, however, state whether he was the man with the blackface or the one dressed in the KKK full regalia.

The embattled Democrat Governor’s apology comes barely after 48-hours of a controversial statement he made supporting third trimester abortion and infanticide, statements which caused an uproar throughout the country after he seemed to indicate that a child could still be aborted or killed during and after birth.

Northam is a pediatric neurologist by profession who graduated in 1984 from Virginia medical school.
