If you live in San Francisco, chances are that the next time you order your food it could be delivered by a robot.  This is an innovative idea by Marble, a robot delivery start-up company in partnership with Yelp Eat24 to begin a robotic food delivery service.

Starting in their hometown San Francisco, the autonomous robots are now hitting the streets of San Francisco to deliver food in the evenings. Users order from the app -Yelp Eat24- and opt in for robot delivery.

When the food arrives, customer keys in a code and the cargo bay unlocks so they can remove their food.  Once done, the robot heads back home or wherever it came from.

While cameras, sensors and ultrasonic technology help the robot with navigation, there is human oversight in case a problem arises.

Marble has bigger plans for the future and that is to deliver groceries, parcels and other goods right to your door.

Marble is one of a handful of robotic companies that developing autonomous robots that can navigate to a customer’s address.  Starship Technologies is another company that began offering a pilot food delivery service in Washington DC and California earlier this year.
