The United States has deployed warships to the Korean Peninsula amid concerns with North Korea’s growing missile program. The USS Carl Vinson Strike Group comprising of an aircraft carrier and other warships will be moving towards the western Pacific Ocean near the Peninsula. The deployment has been described a prudent measure to maintain readiness in the region.
The Navy Strike Group comprises the Nimitz-class aircraft carrier, USS Carl Vinson, two guided-missile destroyers and a guided-missile cruiser. In addition to massive striking, the carrier group headed by Admiral Nora Tyson has the capability to intercept ballistic missiles.
The bold move meant to signal a show of force comes a just a few days after President Trump declared that the policy of ‘strategic patience’ with the rogue regime was over.
Trump has always maintained that America is prepared to act alone to deal with the nuclear threat from North Korea if need be. “If China is not going to solve North Korea, we will.” he stated bluntly
“The number one threat in the region continues to be North Korea, due to its reckless, irresponsible and destabilizing program of missile tests and pursuit of a nuclear weapons capability,” US Pacific Command spokesman Dave Benham said.
The country under the leadership of Kim Jong Un has seen a speedy advancement in its nuclear missile program. There have been repeated indications that North Korea may be testing an intercontinental ballistic missile or something similar even though it is banned from any tests by the United Nations.
Experts believe the ambitious test could be done as early as April 15, a symbolic date marking the 105th birthday of Kim II-sun, the Founding Father of the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea (DPRK) and grandfather of Kim Jong-Un.
The regime in North Korea has been watching closely how President Trump is dealing with Syria. In response, the country called the attack on Syria an “intolerable act of aggression against a sovereign state,” then pointed to the strikes as a justifiable reason to bolster its own defences against aggression.
If attacked, North Korea has indicated through a response that it is ready to defend itself against what it perceives a foreign aggressor.
