President Trump signed the biggest ever defense funding bill on Friday at Joint Base Andrews. The massive $738 billion bill signed under the National Defense Authorization Act for the Fiscal Year 2020 officially establishes a new, sixth branch of the United States Armed Forces, the Space Force.
The launch of Space Force under the Trump Administration is the first addition to the military service in more than 70 years when the US Air Force was created under President Harry Truman.
The funding bill is part of a $1.4 trillion government spending package that includes the Pentagon Budget within which is funding for the southern Border Wall. Also included in the bill is 12 weeks of Paid Parental Leave, repeals “Cadillac Tax’ on Health Plans, raises smocking age to 21 and the biggest raise in military salaries in a long time.
“With my signature today you will witness the birth of the Space Force,” adding, “ And that will be now officially the sixth branch of the United States Armed Forces.”
Before signing, Trump had a few words to say.
“Think of that. We will create a brand new American military services, that’s such a momentous statement,” he said. “That’s a big moment and we’re all here for it.”
He then took to describing as to express how vital the Space Force was and the imperativeness of creating one as this particular juncture of military star wars.
“There’s going to be a lot of things happening in space. Because space of the world’s newest war-fighting domain,” he said.
“American superiority in space is absolutely vital, we’re leading but we’re not leading by enough but very shortly we’ll be leading by a lot.”
After signing the bill, the First Family departed for Mar-a-Lago leaving behind swampy DC to begin the two week Christmas holiday.
